FAQs
Can I purchase Just Mushrooms elsewhere?
At this time, we are only selling our cookbook through amazon. As much as we’d like to have our books sold at local shops, as self-published authors, our printing budget works best with amazons direct publishing. Every book is printed per order, and we are able to gauge demand and fulfillment best this way. We did opt for recycled paper stock at amazon, and are able to keep 60% of our royalties. We hope everyone can understand this, as Just Mushrooms is a complete passion project, without a publisher, distribution etc.
Sourcing mushrooms
We always recommend checking your local farmers market first, or grocery Co-Op first. If you’re unable to source fresh mushrooms, here are some great online resources for ordering dried mushrooms, powders, and grow kits!
Are mushrooms night-shades?
No, mushrooms are fungi. They are not plants and are in their own kingdom.

Substituting mushrooms
Shoot us a message on instagram or an email for specific questions, but here are some quick “rules of thumb” to swap out mushrooms in our recipes!
King oyster mushrooms can be swapped for pearl oyster mushrooms (then any other variety of oyster mushrooms)
Lion’s mane mushrooms can be swapped for Comb’s tooth, and vise-a-versa.
Shiitake mushrooms can be swapped for portobellos
Chestnut mushrooms can be swapped for chanterelle mushrooms
While we encourage specific mushrooms based on their flavor, mouth-feel for the recipe and health benefits, we understand sourcing can be challenging at first. Hopefully these swaps will help you in your exploration!
